January 5th–26th, 2025

Yearly Fast + 21 Days of Prayer 🙏

We start every year at Commission Church with a corporate period of fasting and prayer. Below are resources and information about this year’s 21 Days of Prayer.

  • Key Details

    Start date: Sunday, January 5th, 2025

    End Date: Sunday, January 26th, 2025

    Goal: To start the new year with prayer and fasting in order to put our earthly desires before God and offer them as a sacrifice. We seek to start the year by putting God first and seeking him as we begin a new year.

  • Daniel Fast

    While technically not a “true fast” the Daniel Fast is abstience from certain foods as a response to our need for God at the beginning of a new year.

    During the Daniel Fast, participants typically avoid:

    Meat and animal products: Including beef, poultry, fish, dairy, and eggs.

    All Sweeteners: Such as sugar, honey, and artificial sweeteners.

    Leavened bread and processed foods: Participants usually stick to whole grains and avoid leavened bread.

    Solid fats: Avoid fried foods and choose healthier fat sources like olive oil.

    Processed Foods: Participants usually cook whole foods and avoid processed items.

    Beverages: Often, participants limit their beverage intake to water and herbal teas.

    The emphasis is on consuming fruits, vegetables, legumes, nuts, seeds, and whole grains. The Daniel Fast is not about dietary restrictions at all; it is a response to a sacred moment that encourages prayer, meditation, and spiritual reflection.

    The Daniel fast is a partial fast, meaning it does not require the individual to give up all food for a period of time, though some people will abstain from eating before dinner. It is very strict about what foods can be consumed. The Bible does not go into great detail about what specifically he ate, though it does say Daniel and his friends consumed vegetables and water. The Daniel fast is built around this knowledge, an understanding of Levitical law, and clean foods.

    Please consult a medical doctor if you have any questions.

    Children, nursing and expecting mothers, elders in questionable health, or those who have existing medical conditions or illnesses should not fast! (apart from clearance and supervision from medical professionals).

Topical Prayers

  • For Guidance

    Direct us, O Lord, in all our doings with your most gracious

    favor, and further us with your continual help; that in all our

    works begun, continued, and ended in you, we may glorify

    your holy Name, and finally, by your mercy, obtain everlasting

    life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

  • For Light

    God meet us in the dark nights of our souls. Meet us where we are. Lead us into your light. You are my shepherd. You lead me beside still and peaceful waters. In the darkness, I find comfort in you and my soul is restored. Though darkness surrounds me, I know you are with me. In you, we will be raised to glory. Out of the tomb, you overcame darkness and revealed your glorious light. Praise the Christ, the son of the God of all light.

  • For Peace

    Lord, make us instruments of your peace.

    Where there is hatred, let us sow love;

    where there is injury, pardon;

    where there is discord, union;

    where there is doubt, faith;

    where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light;

    where there is sadness, joy.

    Grant that we may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;

    to be understood as to understand;

    to be loved as to love.

    For it is in giving that we receive;

    it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;

    and it is in dying that we

    are born to eternal life.

    Amen.

  • For Unity

    O God the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, our only Savior,

    the Prince of Peace:

    Give us grace seriously to lay to heart the great dangers we are in by our unhappy divisions;

    take away all hatred and prejudice, and whatever else may hinder us

    from godly union and concord;

    that, as there is but one Body and one Spirit, one hope of our calling, one Lord, one Faith, one Baptism, one God and Father of us all, so we may be all of one heart and of one soul, united in one holy bond of truth and peace, of faith and charity, and may with one mind and

    one mouth glorify you;

    through Jesus Christ our Lord.

    Amen.

  • For Young People

    God our Father, you see your children growing up in an unsteady and confusing world:

    Show them that your ways give more life than the ways of the world, and that following you is better than chasing after selfish goals.

    Help them to take failure, not as a measure of their worth, but as a chance for a new start.

    Give them strength to hold their faith in you, and to keep alive their joy in your creation;

    through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
